NABWIC TALKS BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT WITH AMBER LAWHORN, DIRECTOR, SMALL BUSINESS ENTERPRISE PROGRAM
Amber Lawhorn currently serves as Director of the Small Business Enterprise Program for Jackson Health System. In her work with Jackson’s Small Business Program, Amber has managed initiatives that encourage and increase participation of small and historically underutilized suppliers in all of Jackson’s procurement activities. Her mission is identifying and creating opportunities for those businesses to provide goods and services to Jackson. Her personal goals include, but are not limited to, sharing information that results in successful outcomes and connecting suppliers with the right people and resources. Currently, Amber takes advantage of every opportunity to keep suppliers informed of ways to participate in Jackson’s nearly two billion dollar capital program. This 10-year construction and renovation effort includes a first-of-its-kind Mentor/Protégé program, partnering local small minority businesses with healthcare construction management giants for a priceless training experience.

Ms. Mundy is a licensed specialty electrical contractor providing installation of voice and data cabling, Security and Access Control, CCTV, Voice over IP, Avaya, Nortel, Cisco telephone systems and other low voltage applications. Continuing/On-Call Low Voltage Contractor for Orlando International Airport, Orlando Utilities Commission and Orange County Public Schools.
She is also engaged in workforce training, instructing adults on how to transition into a career in telecommunications from a telecom technician, cable tv technicians with Brighthouse and Directv, Networking, customer support and helpdesk, and Video Production Assistants.
Ms. Mundy is an active NABWIC member who has been intricately involved with organizing political events, including NABWIC's Annual Mid-Year Congressional Black Caucus Reception. Sandy McDonald has been the Director of the Broward County Office of Economic and Small Business Development (OESBD) since May 2013. Mr. McDonald has an expansive vision of economic development for all of Broward County, centered on an entrepreneurial spirit and dedication to small business success, as well as a renewed sense of partnership with the County’s 31 municipalities and its Municipal Services District.
OESBD has as its core functions economic development for the County and the oversight of local and Federal implementation of small business programs. Mr. McDonald champions opportunities for small businesses through developing, implementing, and monitoring these programs. OESBD provides resources to position businesses in growing beyond Broward County with an emphasis on creating capacity and encouraging international trade. With programs like a new mentor-protégé initiative and an enhanced effort to work directly with city-level economic development efforts, OESBD and the County are poised to continue improvements seen of late in economic development.
Prior to joining Broward County, Mr. McDonald worked for 13 years in Community and Economic Development on both local and federal programs. His expertise includes initiating tax increment finance programs, brownfield redevelopment, small business development, and disadvantaged business enterprise.

William R. Seed is a Senior Vice President, Facility Design, and Construction at Jackson Health System in Miami Florida. In that position he provides leadership for a 1.5 billion Capital program delivering 6 signature projects in 4 years including two new full-service specialty hospitals, renovating four existing hospitals to enhance service as the Miami Dade County safety-net healthcare provider.
